Summer Term Art Attack – ‘Our World at Risk’
In Dosbarth Celyn, our topic for the Summer term is ‘Our world at risk’ where we will be learning all about the environment and how we can help protect our planet. The children will explore important issues such as climate change, pollution and the impact these have on our world. We will also be learning about endangered animals and why it is important to protect them. In literacy, the children will be researching different endangered species and writing non-chronological reports. They will learn how to organise their writing using headings and paragraphs, as well as develop their use of topic-specific vocabulary. In Welsh, we will be learning how to express and describe the weather, looking at the impact climate change has on weather. The children will practise speaking and writing simple weather phrases and begin to use them in conversations. In art, we will be focusing on fine art techniquesinspired by insects and animals. The children will explore different materials and styles to create detailed artwork linked to our topic. In science, we will be learning about flora and fauna, the children will explore how living things depend on each other and their environment to survive. We will look at how plants and animals are suited to their habitats, and how changes to the environment can affect their survival. The children will also begin to understand the importance of protecting biodiversity and caring for the natural world. I am hoping we are going to be lucky enough to be accepted onto an ‘Eco Champions’ project which includes 5 play-based sessions from an outside agency that combine classroom learning and outdoor games. The sessions focus on biodiversity, sustainability, climate change and ending with environment assessments of our own school. In RVE, we will be looking at Creation, and the children will be going on a local pilgrimage route with Ysgol Lixwm. We are looking forward to a fantastic term of learning and discovery, helping the children to understand their role in protecting our planet for the future!
The children also receive weekly Dragon Sports P.E sessions through Arura Sports, and take part in the daily mile.
